Read Week 1 Update here about the Fall 2023 One Room Challenge presented with media partner Apartment Therapy.
This week was alllll about that paint, all about that paint…no treble!!
My client (son #3) asked for: black, blue, & and gold room. I added in the white. Here’s what I ended up picking out. The blue is way more blue and less green.

(high gloss in closet)

I’m still trying to figure out some ways to incorporate gold so it doesn’t appear too glam. If you have ideas, please share in the comments.
I was very adamant in my head that I would prep good to avoid carpet stain mistakes with dripping paint. I’m no professional, and the last time I painted a room was like 2007. Even then, I got an out because Son #2 was 3 at the time and needed Mom to tend to him. 😏
To prep, I taped two rows of painters tape around the baseboard and covered the floor in plastic. Did all my prep work, actually work!?? Well, it was a good faith effort. Even using this painters edge, I still had a few blobs of black paint. All small, thankfully! I tried using this, but umm, the magic wonders didn’t stand a fight with Tricorn Black. So……I used some scissors to trim a little off the top, and it’s not noticeable at all!
I really appreciated the level of satisfaction I got from painting bold colors…the dopamine was high on this one. I started with the closet (the warm-up) and then worked my way into the room (the workout).

I had one issue though. The door had a hole in it similar to this one:

Ya’ll I was so bummed about it because I wasn’t sure the best way to manage fixing it. So I googled a solution, found two, and one definitely worked better. Here’s what my IG friends thought:

THEY WERE RIGHT, joint compound worked way better!

Finally, I worked my leg, arms, thighs, and other muscles I couldn’t imagine existed to finish the rest of the room!

Things I used:
- 1 gallon SW Tricorn Black Paint
- 1 gallon SW Greek Villa
- 1 quart of SW/ Valspar Jay Blue – High gloss
- 2 rolling pins
- 1- 3 piece foam rollers
- Plastic sheeting
- Painters tape
- Painters edge
- Paint brushes
- Flat
- Angle

Stay tuned for Week 3!
